ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hi, I’m Tyra-Elise, a creatively driven fashion photographer with a love for capturing art, emotion, and the beautifully unusual. I’ve always believed fashion should be limitless and expressive, with no boundaries on imagination. That belief is at the heart of everything I create.
My journey as an artist began in an unexpected way. School was never a place where I thrived academically, I struggled to connect with most subjects and ended up failing all my exams except art (no surprise there). That moment wasn’t a setback for me, it was a starting point.
At 17, I was working part-time as a waitress earning £5 an hour. I saved every bit I could and eventually bought my first camera. Back then, I’d dress up, experiment with quirky makeup, and shoot self-portraits in my tiny box room at my mom’s house. There was hardly space for a bed, let alone the wild setups I imagined, but I created freely, just me and my camera.
After a while, I built up the courage to take my ideas beyond myself and photograph other people. I was shy and introverted, so it pushed me out of my comfort zone, but my motivation was bigger than my fear.
From there, I began developing concepts some might call unusual, but I was obsessed in the best way. Photography became a form of healing, a way to process and express things that were hard to put into words. I poured myself into projects like Skin Deep, A Lotus That Grew in the Mud, South Asian Representation, and Hair and Unity, to name a few. For me, creating isn’t just visual it’s emotional, purposeful, and impactful. After all, a photo speaks a thousand words.
Now I’m 24, still creating, still evolving, still shooting self-portraits and concept-led projects only now I have more experience, more stories, and even deeper ideas to build from.
